Reading sustainability and sustainable development between the lines of agrobusiness: Globo Rural Especial

Abstract

The magazine Revista Globo Rural (Globo), in June 2010, published a supplement where the expressions “sustainable development” and “sustainability” are used in several articles. We analysed, by means of “explicit intertextuality’ and ‘implicit intertextuality’ concepts, the verbal and non-verbal enunciations in which they appear and the enunciator’s view. The notion of sustainability, as suggested for Dennis L. Meadows’ (1972), among others, is unstable and generates environmental and social discussions.
