Culture, art and communication in Guy Debord and Cildo Meireles

Abstract

The aim of the paper is to make a comparative analysis between the Situationists proposals and proposals of the Brazilian artist Cildo Meireles, taking into account the concepts of culture, art and communication in those proposals. The focus of the comparison is the proposal of construction of situations, defended by the Situationists, and the proposal for insertion into Ideological Circuits, defended by Meireles. We intend to make a reflection, through an approach of historical context of the proposals, on the possibility of them question the society of the spectacle and culture of the image, which is its main feature. Understanding Guy Debord on the dialectic of culture is the starting point of this reflection.
