Abstract

This article examines Carta Capital and Veja magazines between the years 1996 and 1998 to discuss the relationship between communication in Latin America and the processes of modernization, symbolized by the import of technology as part of an attempt to approximate the ideal of foreign progress. Assuming that the communication on the continent must be seen within the specifics of its formation, it is possible to compose a profile of the magazines on the themes of modernization, progress, technology and focus on the exaltation of foreign culture.
