Abstract

The article reports about the meanings of citizenship in the Extra (RJ), one of the newspapers with the highest circulation in Brazil. The paraphrase analysis leads the analysis to the Discursive Formations (DFs). The DFs, named Fragile and Attributed Citizenship, predominant, and Active and Assumed Citizenship, minority, allowed us to comprehend that the newspaper prioritizes the reproduction of a context of marginalization in classes C, D and E in the access to the rights, although it keeps ways for the citizen performance through an occasional coverage of social mobilizations.
