Mass media within the pubic sphere: new perspectives for the articulations between different arenas and actors

Abstract

Considerations about the role that mass media in the model of political power circulation established by Habermas. The main contributions and impasses they offer to public debate processes. Habermas’s revisions on the concept of public sphere had been followed by a continuous reformulation of the mass media on this sphere: early described as instruments of reproduction and maintenance of the power relations, mass media came to be described as fundamental structures to the articulation among the different arenas and actors who integrate the deliberative processes in contemporary societies.
